Designing A New Method Of Visual Communication - 1461 Words

Postmodernism in design is often distinguished by its difference in ideas and concepts to modernism. Graphic design was lead by modernism throughout the 20th century, however postmodernism was not recognized until the 1980s. Once it became known – as complicated as it was – designers saw it as an opportunity to break away from the modern movement to create a new method of visual communication with their work. Although the ‘rules’ of design were broken in postmodern practice (Poyner 2013 p.13), it simply cannot be understood without reference to modernism. While the product of postmodern design may sometimes be comparable to those of modernist works, their inspiration and purposes are different. Modernism in design is often characterized by originality, orderly layouts, dehumanized content and a focus on functionality; however these characteristics are generally rejected by postmodernism with the use of appropriation, deconstructed layouts, emphasis on perso nal experience and an open-ended interpretation. These features can be seen in highly influential graphic designers such as Neville Brody. Many of Brody’s advertisements, magazines and album cover designs are fragmented with the drastic use of scale, shape and colour. At the time of modernism, this was a very unusual way to approach design. I believe that both modernist and postmodern movements have heavily influenced contemporary graphic design, as practitioners today will often adjust their style to meet the needs of theShow MoreRelatedSupporting Business Documents : How Accurate And Complete They Are For Existing Users1397 Words   |  6 PagesCONTENTS Reassurances for Existing Users While presenting the advertising proposals, it is more important to find a very nervous client trying to build reassurances for existing users, that stimulates new usership nor reassures existing users in their behavior. Comparison of the Explorations of Portugal, Spain and France

During the exploration of the New World Portugal, France, and Spain had one thing in common to search for new resources such as sugar, spices, and gold. The European arrival in the Americas set a new era off known as the Columbian Exchange which changed the America’s forever. Native Americans introduced the Europeans to several new crops such as corn, squash, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes. Portugal set off for a search for sea route to Asia, while in competition with Spain who was also seeking an active root to Asia as well. The French exploration occurred later after the â€Å"New World† was found, and their target was to find a Northwest Passage where they hoped for a route through North America to the pacific. Portugal’s explorations of the Africa brought wealth and power for Prince Henry. It was not enough for him, so he was looking for more opportunities, especially to trade with India. His main goal was to find a sea route that connected to Asia. When Manuel took the throne, he organized a large expedition to India. After 22 days of sailing the crew landed Portugal reached their goal; they had found their long sought water route. I feel that without the advanced technology that Portugal utilized that no such route would have been found and they would have not been able to gain essential resources needed for their country to thrive. The Tempest Adaptations and Transformations - 2100 Words

Julie Taymor’s film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ contains many alterations from the play. Taymor constantly creates differences between the protagonists of film and play. Prospera makes an effort to demonstrate her love for Miranda, by constantly attempting to make physical connections between them. The readers do not receive this visual intimacy in the play. Prospera’s face comes close to Miranda’s and she is always directing her daughter with an arm around her shoulders. The gender change from Prospero to Prospera creates a unique bond that cannot be achieved with Prospero as the protagonist. The difference between Prospero and Prospera’s parenting is that in the play, Shakespeare encourages the reader to view Miranda as a weak character, ‘Oh my heart bleeds... please...fatherâ€℠¢ who will grow up to be subordinate compared to her dominant father. EMotional Intelligence It Affects Learning - MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Given the difficulty of communicating emotional nuance in lean media such as IM and email, are emotions really that bad? Answer: Communicating emotional nuance in email and instant messaging to weary teammates is difficult for a manager. Emotions are natural and can adversely or positively affect communication. To the negative side, emotions affect communication within project management in the following ways: Inappropriate emotional expressions in IM and email create havoc and damage to employees' relationships. Human emotions traumatize the project workforce, and this affects their productivity. Personal differences emotions disguise and kill employees' morale. When personnel is demotivated, they transfer this negative ego to the overall project and cause failure. Also, when such information is shared via email, the disguised employee can transfer to his/her colleagues hence creating wreak havoc (Zeidner, Matthews, Roberts, 2012). Hostile emotions by the manager to employees such as anger, envy, and disgust create unpleasant facial expressions in IM and email. Contempt, disgust, and envy wounds employees are hence affecting project success. On the other end, emotions positively affect communication through IM and email in the following ways: Appropriate facial expressions motivate employees: Like in this case, the manager employs the right use of emotions in the manner he frames the instant message. He, by all means, avoids applying personal perspectives, opinions, and differences in the message and this calms employees' tempers. Emotions portray a sense of confidence: When a manager acts in a manner that defends the employees, they feel valued and form a high sense of confidence with the leader. With team confidence, project success is guaranteed, and this creates a rapport that is easy for employees to forget the damage they were caused by the management. As a manager, what reaction would you have to job applicants where emotions are used in the email message accompanying the job application? As a manager, one should be wise by always employing the right knowledge and skills when dealing with job applications whose message have used emotions. The following are the correct reactions that a manager should consider in such a case: Dismiss and chock off the applications: Since job applications should be impersonal, the employment of emotional feelings by applicants calls for dismissal by a manager and always respond to those emails that have not used emotions. Take time before concluding on whether to respond or not: A manager needs to be honest when dealing with emotional emails since they are not considered professional at all. This calls for him/her to take adequate time before responding to give a response that does not portray emotional feelings as well. Give a straightforward response: Under this strategy, a manager should avoid the use of irony and sarcasm especially when the job applications seem personal. Advise the job applicant on the right language to use for their emails to get a response. Seek team approval in case the manager comes across a qualified candidate: It is essential for the manager to consult team leaders and other key people within an organization in case he/she comes across a qualified candidate (Bradberry Greaves, 2006). They may recommend he responds positively and hires such a candidate. References Bradberry, T., Greaves, J.
